There is nothing quite like riding in a limousine, whether you are on your way to get married or heading out for a night on the town. Limousines are comfortable and luxurious, and they turn heads everywhere they go. Though you don’t have to be an important political figure to ride in a limousine, many U.S. presidents have ridden in limos during their terms of office. Here is a look at some of the most iconic presidential limousines in history:
1939 Lincoln “Sunshine Special”
When cars were first being built, presidents traveled in standard-production automobiles. It wasn’t until Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency in 1939 that the Secret Service gained a limousine built specially for the head of state. Roosevelt’s 1939 Lincoln was built for security (since he had already survived an assassination attempt) and convenience (since Roosevelt was wheelchair-bound and needed to maintain an air of presidential dignity). The Sunshine Special featured an armored body with oversized rear-hinge doors to make entry and exit easier for Roosevelt. It remained in the presidential service until 1950 and is now housed at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
1961 Lincoln Continental SS-100-X
This Lincoln Continental convertible was all new for 1961, and it was stretched to add space to the passenger area and to make it into a true limousine. A metal hoop was added behind the driver so the President could hold onto something while standing up in a parade. Though this is the model of limousine in which John F. Kennedy was riding when he was assassinated, the car is still worth appreciating in its own context.
2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine
The details behind President Barack Obama’s limousine are quite guarded, but experts estimate that this vehicle weighs more than 15,000 pounds. The body design comes from other Cadillac models, including a few features reminiscent of the Escalade SUV. This limousine features high-tech bulletproof glass and a host of other features making it secure for the Commander in Chief.
You can ride in the comfort and style of a limousine, even if you’re not President of the United States! The holiday season is upon us again, and that means it’s time to start planning your annual holiday party. Whether you want to have an intimate gathering of your closest friends or an all-out bash at an event venue, you’ll need to pull out all the stops to make this year’s party even better than the last. To make a lasting impression on your guests, have a limousine pick them up at their door for first-class service. Keep reading for tips for planning an amazing holiday event.
Decide On a Location
You’ve already taken the first step in planning your holiday event by committing to throwing a party. The next thing you need to do is determine where your event will be held. If you are thinking of having a smaller shindig, you can throw the party at your home. You might want to hire caterers so that you can spend more time mingling with your guests instead of working in the kitchen. For a fun and truly unique holiday event, consider renting a party bus to chauffeur you and your guests around Los Angeles to all of your favorite nightlife hotspots. With a party bus, the party never stops!
Make a Guest List
Once you know where you’re having your party, you’ll have a good idea of how many guests you can invite. Some people prefer having parties with just family members and cherished friends, while other people like to invite coworkers, acquaintances, and their plus-ones. It’s up to you who you decide to invite—just make it clear in the invitation whether your guests are welcome to bring a date with them.
Your holiday event is sure to be the talk of the town when you arrange for transportation for your guests to and from your party. Having a limousine waiting to take your guests home is a safe and responsible way of making sure no one gets behind the wheel after drinking.
